Good Humanitarian Donorship
- Saving lives and alleviating suffering
- Assistance according to need
- Adequate, predictable, flexible funding
- Donor accountability and learning
Promotion of Wider Use
Various strategies are used to encourage the wider understanding and
application of Good Humanitarian Donorship (GHD) Principles and Best Practice:
- Discussions are currently underway within the EU as to whether all EU Member
States should sign up to GHD principles. Were this to happen, the number of
countries agreeing to these principles would increase from 24 to 35. The
European Consensus on Humanitarian Aid
outlines the EU's humanitarian policies, including support for the work of GHD.
- Incorporation of GHD principles into existing monitoring, evaluation and reporting structures such as the
Development Assistance Committee (DAC) Peer Review
- Promotion of GHD by individual donors in their interaction with humanitarian partners and within their own organisation.
- Initiatives by individual donors to engage non-DAC donors
ReliefWeb is also an important source of information on GHD for the broader humanitarian community.
- Dialogue with key partners on GHD e.g. International Council of Voluntary Agencies (ICVA) and Spanish NGOs
